The existing roof had reached the end of its life: brittle shingles, soft decking near the eaves and flashing that had been patched more times than anyone could count. We stripped it back to the rafters and rebuilt it properly.
A roof works as a system: decking, underlayment, flashing, ventilation and the finished surface all depend on each other. When one part is neglected the others wear faster, which is why we always look at the whole roof — not just the spot that is leaking.
